Job Summary
GENERAL INFORMATION: Supports the learning and safe environment for the middle and high school aged students at Crossroads School at Juvenile Hall in Napa. Crossroads serves approximately 5-20 youth who are incarcerated for a variety of reasons in Napa County. The Instructional Support Specialist career path requires, at a minimum, completion of 48 college transfer credit hours or successful completion of a rigorous academic assessment exam. *This position is year-round at Juvenile Hall*
Requirements / Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: • The position requires the equivalent of a high school diploma plus experience working with students in a classroom or equivalent environment and successful completion of a rigorous competency exam resulting in a certificate. • Candidates who have completed 48 or more college credit hours and who are degree-eligible may be exempt from the competency exam. • The position requires basic knowledge of the principles and practices of age-appropriate child development and guidance applicable for an educational setting. • Requires working knowledge of the basic subjects taught with sufficient competency to assist students with individual or group activities. • Requires a basic knowledge of teaching and instruction methods. • Requires knowledge of basic clerical and record keeping processes. • Requires knowledge of and skill at using personal computers, multimedia, and other technologies to support learning-oriented activities, record information, and communications. • Requires excellent interpersonal skills to work productively and cooperatively with staff, students, and parents in formal and informal settings; to exercise patience when conveying information and demonstrate sensitivity at all times when dealing with even the most challenging behaviors. • Requires valid driver’s license. • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. • Possess and maintain current certification of CPR/First Aid training
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Establishes positive relationships with students and staff • Takes holistic approach to education and reflects the importance of emotional wellbeing as central to the developmental and mental health needs of all the children • Hold students accountable to the discipline plan with consistency and kindness • Assists in the classroom with supervision and instructional support as needed • Works with individual students or small groups • Performs basic record keeping • Attends professional develop opportunities and staff meetings • Provide Chromebook support to students as necessary • Maintain confidentiality of students assigned to Crossroads and their information • Performs other duties as assigned which support the overall objective of the position
