The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions for the 2023 spring semester to teach courses with emphasis on the following:
Noncredit English as a Second Language
Faculty job responsibilities include the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services. Some assignments may include dual-enrollment courses offered off-site on high school or adult school campuses.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
For a noncredit course in English as a Second Language (ESL) any of the following:
Bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
OR
Bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in TESL, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor
OR
Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in TESL, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor;
OR
Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in ESL.
[Note: This is a paraphrased version of Title 5 53412 (e). If there is any conflict between the paraphrased language and the Title 5 language, the Title 5 language shall prevail.]
AND
Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous college-level teaching experience.
Background in theories of second language acquisition, second language methodology, linguistics, and the teaching of reading and writing to ESL students.

SALARY
Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester. The rate is $55.69 per hour.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Part-time teaching assignment(s) for the 2023 spring semester, beginning February 2023. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit Certificate of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security card upon hire.
