Carondelet High School Academic Intervention and Support Teacher Carondelet High School (About us) is looking for a full-time Math Program Intervention and Support teacher for the 2022-2023 School Year. The Math Program Intervention and Support teacher is part of a team collaboratively working to create an environment where all students are provided the resources they need to succeed at Carondelet. The Intervention and Support teachers participate in 4 sections of Carondelet’s Math Self-Paced Math program and participate in the afterschool programming (PowerLab) to tutor students outside of the classroom. In addition, the Math Program Intervention and Support teacher would teach a semester of Personal Finance following the prescribed curriculum. The Math Program Intervention and Support teacher works closely with Carondelet High School’s students, parent/guardians, faculty and staff, community stakeholders, and outside professionals to help meet the various needs and challenges that relate to academic and learning success. The Math Program Intervention and Support teacher embodies the school’s core values and works to accomplish the school’s mission.

The role of the Math Program Intervention and Support teacher is to provide specific support to students falling behind in the math program.  This person works closely with Lead teachers and provides an additional layer to ensure students do not stall in the program.

Establishes, documents, and maintains important information and confidential student files with frequent communication to parent guardians and their teachers when deemed appropriate about the students’ academic, social, and emotional needs

As Teacher of the Carondelet Intervention Course
 

  • Works with all lead teachers to review student progress and identify students who are not currently meeting their planned pacing marks.
  • Coordinates with the lead teachers to identify which students need more monitoring.
  • Closely track group of students that have been identified
  • Set goals short-term goals with each student to ensure they will meet their goals for the year. 
  • Update goals throughout the year as student updates their pacing guide each quarter
  • Set individual pacing for each student
  • Quick check-in daily with students inside and outside of class to verify that students are working at their set pace.
  • Schedule regular meetings to monitor progress (minimum of one 1every two weeks -- more if needed).  
  • Log goals & outcomes in the lead teacher tracking spreadsheet.  
  • Some students require meeting with parents.  Proactively set up meetings with parents to discuss student progress.  
  • Verify students are ready to take assessment by reviewing major concepts and having students demonstrate mastery BEFORE they submit the form to request to take a test.  
  • Check in with the Lead teacher if there are any red flags or to make sure that none of the students on your docket have tried to circumvent this step.
  • Track student progress to ensure students are on track to meet their goals by the end of the year.  Update teacher tracking spreadsheet as students complete topics.
  • Spot check and comment on the pacing calendar and student submissions for your group of students on a regular basis. 
  • Review pacing calendar students update on Friday before Monday morning.  
  • Make notes on which students to follow up with on Monday. 
  • Notify the department chair on which topics need/request direct instruction for the following week by Friday afternoon. 
  • Check the testing spreadsheet daily to confirm which of your students tested and who needs to remediate.  
  • Make contact with students & parents on the remediation process. 
  • Must be done the same day students take a test.
  • Update teacher tracking spreadsheet with which topics students passed.
  • Proactively communicate with students and families as needed
  • Send emails to provide both positive feedback when possible as well as areas of concern (ideally each student/family should receive a minimum of one positive email per year)
  • Prepare and teach mini-lessons as discussed in planning meetings
  • Be engaged and participate actively in math planning meetings. 
  • Supervise and participate in MAP testing and analysis of MAP testing results
  • Update your teacher tracking spreadsheet with your students’ MAP testing results. 
  • Monitor students at all times in the classroom
  • Creating a classroom environment that helps one another and communicates with one another is essential to the class
  • Work on a positive atmosphere related to confidence and confidence in academic work, monitor the negative self-talk that might be said in the classroom

Follow-up needs

  • Connect students with wellness counselors as needed 
  • Follow up with Case Managers on cases that look to be difficult, try to be proactive
  • Strategize with Case Managers about the potential need for remediation support
  • Where possible schedule time with students to plan tutoring and ed support in needed areas
  • Participate in Powerlab to provide additional support
  • As A Member of the Math teaching team 
  • Participates in team meetings and engages with lead teachers to help identify students who are off course
  • Support and tutors in the after school mandated strategic support and power lab support programs

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required preferably in math or a scientific field
  • Experience working with students. Preference for experience working with students at the high school level
  • Preference for a candidate with a strong understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion best practice.

  • Effective Communicators both Written and Verbal
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Proficient in digital platforms related to school life
