THE POSITION: Under the direction and supervision of the principal, the Dance Chair will oversee the daily operations of the Dance Department. Candidates must be dedicated to increasing diversity in the student body and creating access to the program for students of color and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. The selected candidate will provide visionary leadership in the development and expansion of the Dance program. They will develop curriculum, monitor budgets, communicate with parents, and collaborate with the other arts department chairs. They will create opportunities for students to present their work in LA communities and high-profile events, and to work with non-profit arts providers in developing programing, outreach, and recruiting “pipelines” for prospective LACHSA students. They will recruit and admit student’s representative of LA’s diverse populations, and foster a safe and inclusive culture among students and faculty.

Requirements / Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience that would be likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Five or more years of professional work as an artist, with a CV representative of the candidate’s level of the achievement, arts teaching in an institutional setting with high achieving arts students. Education: Preferably a master's degree in Dance or related field. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE (Must attach a detailed certification/credential with document number to application): Possess and maintain a valid California Single Subject Dance Teaching Credential or a Physical Education Teaching Credential initially issued prior to 01/01/2022. ; Must also hold a full EL authorization Clad (ELA1) or BCLAD.
