Job Description Summary
This position will serve as both the Paramedic Program Director and as a part-time faculty member in the Paramedic department. The Director position will be a 50% non-instructional faculty load corresponding to 20 hours per week.
DEFINITION
Serves as the Director (required by regulatory agencies) for the Cuesta College ParamedicPrograms, reporting to the corresponding Dean of Academic Affairs through the Director of Nursing and Allied Health, Division Chair and/or appropriate designee, and to the Program and Local Emergency Medical Services Agency (LEMSA) Medical Directors.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Meets the qualifications as outlined by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Social Security, Division 9, Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Chapter 4, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, Article 3, 100150 (b), Teaching Staffunder the Program/Course Director description.
Incumbents in this position support student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by effectively responding to the needs of our local service area, strengthening partnerships with local healthcare agencies, and providing students with the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge necessary for employment in the fast-paced pre-hospital health care environment.

Essential Functions & Qualifications
In collaboration with the Dean and Director of Nursing and Allied Health, Division Chair and Medical Director, the EMS Program Director is responsible for all aspects of the programs as outlined by CoAEMSP and Title 22, including but not limited to:Job Duties:
• Administration, organization and supervision of the educational program;
• Continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program;
• Long-range planning and ongoing development of the program;
• Effectiveness of the program and the development and implementation of processes for evaluating program outcomes and improving effectiveness;
• Facilitation of a cooperative and collaborative work relationship with the EMSA, Medical Directors, Internship Preceptors, affiliate agency personnel and community;
• Plan for, oversee, and submit program continued approval and annual reports and visits;
• Cultivate and maintain donor relations;
• Create and submit annual college planning documents;
• Coordinate the development of curriculum, including instructional objectives, and approve all methods of program evaluation;
• Ensure that the curriculum is in compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines established by CA Code of Regulations, Title 22, and CAAHEP/CoAEMSP;
• Collaborate with faculty to ensure continuity in the delivery of the course/program content;
• Ensure students have met the required terminal competencies and are eligible to take the National Registry Exam;
• Verify and sign student course completion records;
• Maintain student files in adherence to regulatory and college requirements;
• Write student improvement letters and meet with students as needed;
• In coordination with the program medical director, approve, supervise, orient and mentor the principal instructors, teaching assistants, field and hospital clinical preceptors, and the clinical and internship assignments;
• Collaborate with faculty to determine supply and equipment needs, and provide oversight of the inventory;
• Create and revise, as needed, the annual application to recruit, select, admit, and notify students into the paramedic program;
• Oversee incoming student orientation and program completion ceremonies;
• Identify appropriate clinical and field internship agencies and develop internship agreements;
• Support and oversee student orientation for clinical and field internship placements;
• Ensure preceptors are trained to teach and evaluate students in accordance with the program curriculum, as mandated by the regulatory bodies;
• Evaluate the effectiveness and quality of fulfillment of responsibilities delegated to another qualified individual; and
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Chair, Director of Nursing and Allied Health, or Dean of Academic Affairs.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation:Required
• Paramedic Director shall be either a California licensed physician, a registered nurse who has a baccalaureate degree; OR
• A paramedic who has a baccalaureate degree or shall be an individual who holds a baccalaureate degree in a related health field or in education.
Experience:
Required
• The course director shall have a minimum of one (1) year experience in an administrative or management level position and have a minimum of three (3) years academic or clinical experience in prehospital care education within the last five (5) years.
• have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience,
• be knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students,
• have field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care,
• have academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of a paramedic,
• be knowledgeable concerning current national curricula, national accreditation, and national registration.
Knowledge of:
• Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
• Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
• District policies and procedures.
Ability to:
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
• Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
Physical ability to:
• Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;
• Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;
• Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
• Lift and/or carry 50 pounds; and
• Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
License and Certificates (current within the last year or must be continuously current):Required
• CPR certification for the healthcare provider.
• Current California Paramedic, MD, or RN license.

• ACLS
• PHTLS
• Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.
