Requirements / Qualifications
The Special Education Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) will work under the direction of an Administrative Assistant, Program Administrator, Director, or Assistant Superintendent. The focus of this position is to enhance instructional excellence to students with disabilities while also facilitating learning, monitoring classroom achievement results and working to continually improve the learning processes for students with disabilities. Duties can include supporting systems of collaboration, supervision, professional development, intervention, instructional leadership, or compliance with federal, state, and local procedures. This position requires collaboration with counselors and principals to support special education teachers, and to enhance inclusive practices for students in the Least Restrictive Environment. An Ed Specialist Credential is required. The position will support sites by: • Ensuring the individual needs of each child, and creates a healthy, inspiring, and supportive learning environment. • Observing students and individuals inside and outside of the classroom • Assessing the students’ work conducted in class • Working with teachers to develop and adapt individualized teaching methods that are suitable for students • Assisting site teachers on updating parents on their kids’ progress and giving recommendations to promote a better learning environment at home • Assisting teachers in maintaining a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and highest student achievement. • Attending IEPs, as needed
