CLASS TITLE: MIGRANT EDUCATION PARENT LIAISON
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Migrant Counselor, serve as a liaison between the Migrant Program and Parents and Out of School Youth concerning Program services for parents and students. Perform related clerical, record-keeping, data input and support other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Serve as a liaison between the District Migrant Program and parents concerning student attendance, educational performance and progress or lack of; contact and provide parents with information concerning related Migrant Program activities, goals, objectives, timelines policies and procedures; provide parents with a variety of information to enhance student school attendance and school performance.
Serve as a liaison between Out of School Youth and Adult Education staff and teachers regarding services they provide.
Make parent home visits as appropriate regarding District Migrant students and Out of School Youth.
Provide information to parents about the resources available to them through the school system and community; become familiar with the services of the school system's Parent Portal and Family Resource Center.
Contact, arrange, schedule and request parent participation in Migrant Program activities, meetings, conferences, to serve on school committees and to attend special events; prepare facilities for meetings and conferences as assigned; prepare and set up related equipment, displays and materials.
Perform various clerical duties in support of the Migrant Program such as initiate and receive telephone calls; route telephone calls and take messages as needed; prepare and distribute a variety of correspondence, informational material and other documents.
Input and update a variety of data into an assigned computer system; establish and maintain records and files.
Compile information and maintain various records and files related to projects, progress, parent phone calls and activities.
Communicate with District personnel and various community agencies regarding services or presentations for monthly meetings.
Maintain confidentiality in carrying out responsibillities.
Attend mandatory monthly Migrant meetings for the purpose of professional development opportunities and collaborative interaction with Migrant parents.
Operate a variety of office equipmeny such as a computer/laptop, copier, fax machine, projector, scanner and assigned software.
OTHER DUTIES:
Perform other related duties as assigned.

ABILITY TO:
Serve as a liaison between the Migrant Program and parents concerning Migrant students and Out of School Students.
Perform various clerical duties in support of the Migrant Program, Migrant parents and Migrant students.
Provide Migrant parents with a variety of information to encourage involvement and participation in the Migrant Program and District activities regarding student education.
Acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and objectives of the Migrant Program and activities.
Operate a computer and assigned software.
Arrange, schedule and request parent participation in special events, conferences and meetings.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with parents, students and communnity with dependability and trust.
Relate well to students and parents.
Meet schedules and timelines.
Compile information and maintain various records and files.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year clerical experience involving frequent public contact. Proficient Biligual skills in Spanish are required.
Valid California Class C Driver's License
Prior experience with Migrant students and families is preferred
