GENERAL SUMMARY

 

Organize, control and plan the network services of the District.  Operate various computers and related software; facilitate the instruction of computer skills through both the networked laboratory systems and the individual classroom computers for all students and staff.  Facilitate the use of computer technology within all curricular areas of the District.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Provide assistance in the development and implementation of technology to improve District instructional delivery and efficiency with higher level knowledge.

 

Assist the students or teachers in the use of multimedia applications, telecommunications, digital cameras, authoring programs, electronic portfolios, desktop publishing, robotics, desktop video editing, video production, digital video editing, wireless connections, SmartBoards, HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), CD-ROM and curriculum specific applications.

 

Assist with a computer inservice program, and participate in workshops on a regular basis with staff.

 

Plan, organize and direct a variety of projects and activities related to computer and network services. Work with vendors to repair hardware. Update software as needed.

 

Attend out of District workshops and inservices to improve skills and knowledge.

 

Operate various operating systems or computers and related software including windows and graphics.

 

Assist in developing and implementing long and short-term plans or activities.

 

Get quotes or order equipment according to established procedures.  Coordinate software purchases to avoid duplication and to insure legal compliance of all software purchases.

 

Communicate with District personnel to coordinate activities and programs; resolve issues and exchange information.

 

Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field; research and evaluate new technology.

 

Perform related duties as assigned.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES USUALLY INCLUDE

 

Installing, supporting and maintaining new server hardware and software infrastructure;

 

Allocating network resources;

 

Setting up user accounts, permissions and passwords;

 

Monitoring network usage;

 

Ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient use of servers;

 

Suggesting and providing solutions to server/network management problems;

 

Ensuring that equipment complies with industry standards;

 

Analyzing and resolving faults, whether it is a major system crash or a forgotten password;

 

Undertaking routine preventative measures and maintaining and monitoring network and internet security;

 

Providing training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence;

 

Supervising other support staff, for example, help desk technicians or student helpers;

 

Working closely with other departments and collaborating with other staff;

 

Assist planning and implementing future IT developments and undertaking projects work;

 

Managing the District website and keeping internal networks running;

 

Monitoring the use of the web by employees;

Operations, capabilities and limitations of multiple servers and personal computer systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Environment- Office environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work.

 

Physical Abilities- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; seeing to assure proper operation of computers and software; hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations.

 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

 

Temperature - usually normal climate for San Joaquin Valley.  Occasional adverse weather and conditions.

 

 

CONTACTS

 

Daily contacts with students, teachers, school and District staff.

 

Occasional contact with parents, community members and outside agency personnel.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and five years increasingly responsible activities.

 

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATES/LICENSES

 

A+ certification, Valid California driver’s license, Cisco network training.

 

Cross platform knowledge (Macintosh, Windows)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • High school diploma or equivalent • Minimum of 3 years experience working with district data systems and implementation and support for accountability and instruction • Knowledge and experience with English Language Learner populations of students • Knowledge and experience in identifying local needs for continuous improvement and designing systems that use data to support the improvement • Required specialized knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and techniques involved in the processing, preparation, verification, record-keeping and reporting of statistical data. Requires a working knowledge of data collection information systems and statistical software. Requires knowledge of computerized data collection, management, manipulation and distribution requirements for analysis and reporting functions. Requires specialized knowledge of the principles, methods and procedures of relational databases. Requires knowledge of report writing and statistical record-keeping techniques. Requires knowledge of data verification and clean-up procedures. Must establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Must be able to make mathematical and statistical computations with speed and accuracy. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must have the ability to perform accurate and mathematical and statistical calculations.
