Serve as a resource on disabilities; provide program assessment, evaluation, and technical assistance in the area of disabilities; assist in locating appropriate consultant resource to meet program needs; assist in developing the Disabilities Plan: follow-up on disabilities referrals; attend and participate in parent conferences, case conferences, IEP/IFSP meetings, SST meetings, transition meetings; evaluate case studies to determine eligibility for placement for special education students; cooperate with various District and community agencies (i.e. Regional Center) for student placement and seamless services; serve as an advocate by providing resources, materials, and strategies/techniques to assist the special needs population; screen and refer children with possible disabilities for further assessment; recruit eligible participants into the program; provide staff development and parent trainings; complete Grantee reports as needed; initiate potential community partnerships to serve children; assist staff in successful inclusion of children with disabilities; observe children with disabilities and provide recommendations to maximize student participation; develop transition plans for children with disabilities entering and exiting Early Head Start and Head Start; review IEPs/IFSPs and lesson plans to ensure objectives are met.

The Baldwin Park Unified School District is recruiting for a Head Start Disabilities Specialist. Under the direction of the Coordinator of Early Childhood Education, the Disabilities Specialist ensures compliance with local, state, and Federal guidelines in relation to the special needs population. The position also recruits eligible participants and coordinates services with program staff, District, and community partners. The selection process tentatively consists of the District application review and interviews. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: • A bachelor's degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council on Post-secondary Accreditation. Experience: • Three (3) or more years of successful classroom teaching experience; or three (3) years of successful experience with a service provider serving children with disabilities. REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES Possession of a valid California Driver's license, have an acceptable driving record, and qualify for insurance. Preferred: • Formal training in special education, preschool through grade 12 is desirable. • Head Start or early childhood education experience desired.
