JOB TITLE: DISPATCHER
Job Purpose Statements/s: The job of "Dispatcher" is done for the purpose/s of assisting in the transportation operations, meeting scheduling demands, assisting individuals in the performance of their functions; and resolving and/or recommending solutions to incidents, complaints and/or accidents.
Essential Job Functions:
* Assesses incidents, complaints and/or accidents for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
* Directs assigned transportation personnel for the purpose of assisting the individuals in performing their functions in a safe and efficient manner.
* Dispatches drivers for the purpose of meeting the schedule demands.
* Maintains transportation files for the purpose of providing documentation for audit purposes and meeting district, state and federal requirements.
* Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
* Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. boundary changes, personnel requirements, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction and/or making decisions.
Other Job Functions:
* Participates in various activities (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information.
* Drives school buses and/or vans for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes and/or special excursions (field trips) as required.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
* Experience Required: Prior transportation operations experience preferably in a school and/or instructional setting.
* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skill to operate school buses and vans in a safe manner, communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, students, parents and school administrators, evaluate schedules and meet deadlines, plan and organize activities, administer first aid, operate basic office equipment including computer operations.
Knowledge of vehicle operation, basic maintenance requirements and driving codes, training requirements, general routing/scheduling procedures.
Ability to sit for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, perform basic mathematical calculations, work independently, make common sense decisions in routine and critical situations. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, lifting/pulling/pushing, talking/hearing conversations, and other sounds, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation/field of vision.
* Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Valid Class Driver's License and evidence of insurability, School Bus Driver's Certificate, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Drug Testing Clearance, First Aid Certificate ( or passing of the California Highway Patrol examination including first aid). A valid Department of Motor Vehicles Medical Certificate.
