JOB SPECIFICATION
CUSTODIAN II SITES/TEAM
THE POSITION
Under supervision perform custodial duties to keep district classrooms, lavatories, buildings and office areas clean and orderly, operate equipment used in floor care, and perform related work as required.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal, Director of Maintenance and Operations, Custodial Supervisor, with input from the Central Lead Custodian.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class may be assigned to a day shift or night shift at an individual site or part of a team based at Maintenance & Operations, and are under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance and Operations, Custodial Supervisor, Central Lead Custodian, and Team Lead Custodian. Incumbents are responsible to perform a wide variety of custodial jobs. The duties listed below are typical for positions in this class collectively but no one position will necessarily include all of the above.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and other areas neat, clean and safe at all times.
• Sweeps, scrubs, dusts, and otherwise cleans areas such as offices, hallways, workshops, lavatories, classrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums, libraries, multi-purpose rooms and stairways.
• Operates a variety of custodial equipment including buffers and vacuum cleaners.
• Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment as directed.
• Washes windows, walls, sinks and fountains.
• Replaces light bulbs and makes minor maintenance repairs.
• Secures buildings and grounds after hours.
• Does emergency clean-up resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling or illness.
• Refinishes, seals, waxes and polishes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets.
• When not engaged in custodial activities, may assist as required in a variety of maintenance work throughout the district.
• May fill in for day lead custodian.
• Participates in District in-services, workshops and/or seminars.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Knowledge of:
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces and furniture.
• Cleaning chemicals and their proper use.
• Basic safety practices related to cleaning methods.
• Basic English usage, writing and math.
Ability to:
• Maintain work schedules in performing tasks.
• Perform heavy physical labor.
• Work without immediate supervision.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and read labels.
• Maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Maintain a pleasant appearance and demeanor.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; experience in cleaning and maintaining building areas; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
• Good work history and attendance.
PERSONAL QUALITIES
High degree of custodial aptitude and willingness to learn new skills routines and equipment. Possess physical strength and stamina to do strenuous work.
PHYSICAL
Good physical condition as determined by pre- and post-employment inquiries and health reports.
LICENSES
Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
WORK YEAR: 12 Month
SALARY: Classified Range 24
