WRITTEN TEST
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2022, AT 8:30 A.M., SHARP. Education Center, Board Room, 4850 Pedley Road, Jurupa Valley, California 92509. THE TESTING WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY ONE AND ONE-HALF (1 1/2) HOURS TO COMPLETE. PLEASE BE PREPARED TO REMAIN IN THE TESTING ROOM FOR THE ENTIRE TEST PERIOD. THIS IS THE ONLY NOTICE OF THE TESTING.

Jurupa Unified School District GROUNDS WORKER DEFINITION Under supervision, to perform general and varied grounds keeping and gardening work; and to do related work as required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS · Mows lawns and fields. · Edges around walks, flower beds, walls, and related grounds areas. · Trims and prunes shrubs, hedges, and trees. · Prepares and fertilizes soil and plants lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges, and flowers. · Sprays landscaped areas with insecticides and herbicides. · Hoes weeds and rakes lawns. · Operates power lawn mowers, power edgers, and a variety of attachments and hand grounds equipment or tools. · Services and makes minor repairs to equipment. · Sharpens lawnmowers. · Assists in the preparation, lining, marking, and dragging of athletic fields, tracks or related areas. · Sweeps and picks up paper from walks and driveways. · Hauls refuse to the dump. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS · Waters various grounds areas by hand or by operating the sprinkler systems. · May operate sweeper truck, small dump trucks, tractor with attachments, and wood chipper. · Maintains and makes minor repairs to sprinkler systems. · Assists in moving and arranging bleachers, furniture and equipment for special events. · Performs other related duties as required. LICENSE REQUIREMENT Possession of a valid, appropriate California’s Drivers License. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Ability to: Follow oral and written instructions; Work with a minimum of supervision; Remain flexible despite a heavy work load and frequent duty changes; Work safely; Handle tasks of moderate to heavy physical exertion; Learn methods, equipment, materials and practices in caring for lawns, plants, and trees; Establish and maintain good working relationships with others. Read, understand and follow instructions; Communicate effectively; Stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk; Personnel Services (over) GROUNDS WORKER Ability to (continued): Climb slopes, stairs, steps and ladders; Lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects; Perform strenuous manual labor for up to 8 hours; Accomplish tasks at various elevated heights in a safe and effective manner; Accomplish tasks in restricted spaces in a safe and effective manner; Accomplish tasks with chemical agents in a safe and effective manner; Wear and use respirators, for personal protection, for up to 3 hours at a time. (Respirators resemble gas masks, and will not operate properly if facial hair prevents a proper seal against the skin); Work around trees, plants, shrubs, flowers, dust, soil and turf in a safe and effective manner; Demonstrate manual dexterity, and steadiness and stability of hand movement necessary to perform fine maintenance procedures in a safe and effective manner; Operate both manual and power hand tools in a safe and effective manner; Operate a variety of industrial or motor vehicles, equipment and tools associated with grounds keeping, gardening, and custodial trades in a safe and effective manner; Maintain steady, regular attendance.
