Job Description

We are seeking individuals to join our Art History department team that are fully committed to transformational, culturally responsive education in a collegial and collaborative student-centered environment.
Summary Description:
SBVC invites applications for a full-time tenure track position teaching art courses within the Art Department. The college seeks qualified candidates to teach art appreciation courses and visual studio art courses such as; ceramics, sculpture, and/or glass blowing.
Examples of Duties:
• Teach courses in art appreciation.
• Teach courses in the college's studio art curriculum, including multiple levels of 2D and 3D design, ceramics, sculpture, and/or glass blowing.
• Collaborate in the development and revision of art curriculum, annual program review, and other reporting requirements.
• Participate on college/district committees.
• Engage in professional development activities.
• Engage with students during regular, scheduled office hours.
• Collaborate in college art gallery programming.
• Maintain subject matter currency.
• Assess and analyze student learning outcomes to develop improvement strategies.
• Collegial participation in departmental, college and professional activities.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
• Maintain current, accurate records of student academic progress.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's in fine arts, art, or art history
OR
Bachelor's in any of the above
AND
Master's in humanities
OR the equivalent*
AND
Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
NOTE: “Master's in fine arts” as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the “Master of Fine Arts” (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other non-plastic arts.)

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience in teaching ceramics, sculpture, and/or glass blowing.
• Ability to develop an inclusive curriculum that represents the student demographic population at SBVC.
Employment Requirements
The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:
• Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
• Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
• Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
• Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule)
