COMPUTER TECHNICIAN
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Technology Coordinator, the Computer Technician installs computer terminals, microcomputers, data communications equipment and related data processing equipment; diagnoses, maintains and repairs computer equipment; maintains equipment records, and performs related work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents in this class are responsible for the repair and maintenance of all District computers and all related hardware and software. Incumbents provide telephone support, travel to work sites to assist staff and to conduct on-site repairs, and service equipment in the Technology Department area. Incumbents are to be authoritative sources regarding the repair of computer equipment, working with considerable independence.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
? Install, maintain, and repair all District computers and related hardware; install software.
? Ensure that repairs to equipment are handled in a timely manner..
? Assist users to resolve technical problems, restore data, transfer data, use software, etc..
? Maintain Internet services and connectivity for all authorized District users.
? Receive, log, test and install computer terminals, microcomputers, data communications equipment, cables, and related equipment.
? Use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot problems..
? Develop and maintain checklists for equipment troubleshooting and operations..
? Maintain equipment inventories.
? Assure cleanliness of computer room and equipment.
? Prepare orders for warehouse supplies; prepare purchase orders for departmental purchases.
? .Participate in District mandated training and retraining programs.
? Perform other related duties as assigned by the Technology Coordinator..

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the operation and troubleshooting of micro computer hardware and software.
Ability to maintain and repair all District computers and micro computers and related hardware and to install software.
Knowledge of currently used database, spreadsheets and word processing applications, etc..
Knowledge of school computer operations and procedures.
Ability to perform diagnostic analysis of computer systems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff.
Ability to communicate with non-technical personnel when dealing with computer matters.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to keep basic records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Two years experience in computer repair and maintenance, or two years experience as a computer operator, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Education at least equivalent to high school graduation, with some training and/or course work in the repair and maintenance of computers.
