COACHELLA VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
SPECIAL DAY CLASS TEACHER

A. Description of Position:
Provides instruction and services for students whose needs have been identified in a written individualized educational plan (IEP) which is developed by an IEP team and who is assigned to special education programs. Coordinates district and community resources to insure the student’s integration and success within the school and community.

B. Supervision Received:
Under direct supervision of the school site principal and the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services / Special Education.

C. Supervision Exercised: Special Day Class Instructional Aide

D. Prime Duties:
1. Develop teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of the students.
2. Become knowledgeable of regular education core curriculum and develop curricular adoptions as appropriate.
3. Assess students' critical needs through observation, assessment and parent interviews, and make this information available for decision making purposes.
4. Participate in IEP meeting through the development of students' goals and objectives.
5. Completes necessary reports for each student on their caseload.
6. Conduct ongoing communication with regular education teachers to provide direction for student mainstreaming activities.
7. Select and prepare appropriate instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
8. Provide parents with information on instructional program and periodically inform parents of their child's progress.
9. Practice effective classroom management techniques.

E. Required Qualifications: Valid Special Education Credential

1. Demonstrate effective instructional methods and techniques to implement a course of study to insure student achievement.
2. Provide a course of study with sequentially - based skills in each area of skill development.
3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with teachers, staff, and community.

H. Length of Service: 184 School Days
I. Salary: Placement on Teacher's Salary Schedule

1. Valid California Education Specialist Credential (mild/mod) or Intern Eligibility Letter 2. Autism 3. CLAD, ELA1 or ELA E 4. Three letters of recommendation from supervisors signed and dated within one year 5. Letter of Introduction 6. Cover letter 7. TB clearance 7. Resume 8. TB clearance 9. Proof of full vaccination against COVID 19 is required or exemption can be requested
