Under the supervision of the Administrator of Educational Programs, the teacher will provide instruction in a two-semester sequence of courses for students who have a technical interest in animals and want to explore careers and acquire the technical and interpersonal skills necessary to work in entry-level positions within the veterinary science field. The fall semester theory class consists of topics such as careers in animal health, safety, animal behaviors, proper restraint and handling, species and breeds, anatomy and physiology, terminology, common diseases, and nutrition. The spring semester is a four-day per week class that includes advanced theory including ethology, laboratory skills, pharmacology, and common procedures including radiology, diagnostic, emergency, and surgical. After initial classroom theory, students will be placed in a veterinarian’s office (or another suitable facility) for hands-on application of learning. Internship site location and hours are to be arranged by the instructor.
