Position Description:


Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of duties required in the maintenance of a school library; provide assistance to teachers, aides and students in locating and utilizing reading materials, books and other media.

 

Requirements

Knowledge of

Basic library skills and organization.

Computer technology.

Circulation, distribution and processing of library books and related materials.

Appropriate stories and reading levels of elementary school students.

Operation of standard business and instructional machines and equipment.

Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

Record-keeping techniques.  Oral and written communication skills.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Ability to

Participate in school-wide activities and share duties for supervision of students during recesses and clubs.

Schedule, organize and coordinate library activities.

Assist teachers, aides and students in locating and utilizing library materials.

Perform general library duties involving the circulation, ordering, sorting, reshelving, and distribution of books and other media.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.P

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Plan and organize work.

Operate standard office machines and perform clerical support duties such as typing, filing and duplications.

Select, fluently read, and present appropriate stories to children.

Enlist the support, interest and participation of students.

Perform simple and repetitive tasks.

Stand, stoop, reach and lift.

 

Range/Salary 

N7 Starting at $18.48/hourly

 

Education and Experience 

High School diploma or equivalent; and Associates Degree or higher; or complete 2 years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester units); or participation in a rigorous paraprofessional training and assessment program.

•Due to the fact this position requires contact with students during the course of employment, the qualified applicant being recommended for this position will be required to obtain fingerprint clearance prior to beginning employment.  This clearance requires submitting a processing fee of $66 for Live Scan to meet the pre-employment requirements and has an estimated time length of 72 hours.
