RISK MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Director of Risk Management perform responsible and technical services in the administration of workers' compensation, emergency preparedness and safety; prepare reports and maintain records and files.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Receive and prepare reports of work related injuries or illnesses; determine and authorize appropriate medical treatment; authorize special medical treat¬ment as necessary; notify employee of disability entitlements and benefits under State and District regulations. E
Calculate temporary and permanent disability compensation for eligible employees. E
Process billings and authorize payment for medical treatment of work related injuries or illnesses; resolve discrepancies of billings. E
Serve as contact person with injured employee(s), hospital and clinic personnel, physicians and employee supervisors to obtain and provide information on the employee's status. E
Maintain records and files on work related injury cases, liability, collision, fire and subrogation; record all communication from physicians and attorneys regarding status of claims. E
Prepare reports and maintain logs regarding work related injuries and illnesses such as the annual self_insured report, Occupational Health and Safety, Employer's First Report, student accident reports, and Safety Committee minutes. E
Process employee claims for personal property damage. E
Process management fringe benefit claims. E
Maintain files and records on emergency disaster plans, emergency drills, air pollution alerts, and Red Cross plans. E
Perform secretarial work for the Director of Risk Management and Occupational Safety Specialist; compose correspondence and respond to a variety of questions regarding risk manage¬ment and occupational safety. E
May direct the work of other employees.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Terminology and practices of medical treatment.
Applicable sections of State Education Code.
Reading, oral and written communication skills.
Technical aspects of worker's compensation administration.

Learn basic insurance bookkeeping practices and procedures.
Type at 50 wpm.
Operate a standard calculating machine.
Work accurately under pressure.
Prepare reports and maintain files.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of college course work in business or social science or related field two years of responsible technical clerical work involving public contact.
