THE POSITION: The Coordinator I, Los Angeles County Office of Education Special Education Local Plan Area (LACOE SELPA) and Los Angeles County Charter Special Education Local Plan Area (LAC Charter SELPA) shall coordinate and assist in the direction of special education programs within both the LACOE SELPA and the LAC Charter SELPA; provide technical, specialized, consultative, advisory, and planning services as they relate to special education programs for schools within both SELPA’s; assist, advise, and guide central office administration and supervisors in school site special education program monitoring and quality assurance; coordinate with and assist in preparing for hearings and proceedings related to special education related complaints; conduct neutral fact-finding investigations into complaints of potential violations of state and federal laws as they relate to special education programs or services; plan, coordinate, and monitor special education programs and procedures; and organize trainings and in-services related to special education; and perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience that would be likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Five years of significant, directly related, and successful experience as an educator including three years as a special education teacher or service provider. Special Education administrative or leadership experience is highly desirable. Education: A Master’s degree in special education or a special education credential from an institution of higher learning accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE (Must attach a detailed certification/credential with document number to application): (1) Possess and maintain a valid Administrative Services or Supervisory Credential authorizing service to K-12 (2) Possess and maintain a Special Education Teaching Credential, School Psychology Credential, or a Speech Pathology Services Credential

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for All Los Angeles County Office of Education Employees Under Superintendent Policy 4060, COVID-19 Vaccination, the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) requires that all LACOE employees, including substitute employees, temporary office workers, hourly/part-time employees, contractors, interns, and volunteers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. An individual is considered “fully vaccinated” when at least two weeks have passed since that individual’s receipt of the second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.
