1BTHE POSITION

 

Under general supervision of a Tier II (SAPF) the Tier II Behavior Assistant will assist the SAPF in the supervision and instruction of students in a variety of educational settings including the classroom, playground and other school areas to implement the Tier II behavior intervention programs for identified students and perform related duties as assigned.

3BDISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

A Tier II Behavior Assistant is distinguished from other instructional classifications because they will be working within the structure of research-based Tier II interventions and curriculum.  Job duties may include Check In/Out, running social skills/behavior skill groups, monitoring a site-based Friendship/Reflection Room, mentoring, collecting data, push-in support within classrooms and corrective teaching.  The Tier II Behavior Assistant will report to the Tier II SAPF and will participate in weekly collaboration regarding student progress.  Other related duties may be assigned.

 

4BEXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The duties are typical, but not exclusive:

 

  • Work with student individually and in groups, assisting with specific instructional or learning tasks.
  • Collect data and record anecdotal student progress notes, maintain and organize program notebooks, and implement behavior modifications.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.
  • Assist/Report to Tier II SAPF personnel with behavior management of students.
  • Assist students by interpreting classroom assignments.
  • Supervise students at lunch, on the playground, and other school areas.
  • Apply behavior modification techniques.
  • Assure health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Attend a variety of meetings, workshops and in-service trainings to maintain current knowledge of behavior interventions.
  • May assist with routine clerical duties directly related to classroom work.
  • Set up work areas and prepare materials for instructional use.

  • Provide Tier II behavior interventions to students at school under supervision of a Tier II SAPF.

  • Monitor and evaluate student progress.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed data collection.
  • Prepare lessons and instructional materials for students.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Operate a variety of office and instructional equipment including a computer and assigned software.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Understand and work within scope of authority.
  • Observe health and safety regulations.
  • Administer First Aid and CPR.

Training and Experience:

  • Must possess and maintain a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation  (CPR) Certificate
  • Pass the District’s adopted Proficiency Examination with a satisfactory score.

Personal Qualities:

  • Good health, flexibility (both mental and physical), patience, emotional stability, interest in understanding students, and ability to work in and through crisis situations
