JOB TITLE: Speech and Language Pathologist
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Speech and Language Pathologist works under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum/Technology or his/her designee. The specialist conducts a speech and language program as a result of screening and referrals conducted within the regular school program.
SUPERVISOR: Director, Special Education/Special Programs
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Accepts referrals and screens children as needed.
Assesses and diagnoses students.
Prepares written reports, interprets student evaluations, and develops Individualized Educational Programs (IEP).
Schedules and provides instruction to individuals and groups of students.
Meets with parents on a regular basis to review student progress, reassesses needs, etc.
Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with parents, guardians, teaching staff, and administrators.
Works closely with other members of program staff to develop and maintain curriculums and standards.
Coordinates transition plans for students moving to other environments.
Works cooperatively with personnel from outside agencies providing services to the student and family.
Participates in professional growth activities such as conferences, classes, staff meetings, and visitations.
Makes and/or recommends appropriate environmental modifications needed to facilitate students experiences.
Complies with rules and regulations set forth by the school district and California Education Code and Title V.
Completes records/paperwork as required by Rocklin Unified School District.
Other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Master's Degree with a valid California Teaching Credential authorizing service in language, speech, and hearing. Must hold a valid California driver's license.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching experience at various grade levels; knowledge of subject area and instructional methodologies and techniques; Master's Degree and/or post graduate course work.
GOALS OF EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
To teach students of various academic and age levels; counsel students in social, emotional, vocational, as well as academic curriculum areas; and provide continuous communication for parents and staff.
DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medical Category I
1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for
standing, sitting, bending, or walking.
2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment
with light physical work and requires light physical effort.
3. Lifting 25 pounds maximum or carrying any object weighing over
15 pounds.
