Job Summary
Position Overview The School Psychologist works under the direction of the Charter School Principals. He/she provides a full range of psychological services to include consulting, counseling, professional development, progress evaluations, parent workshops, psycho educational assessment of regular and special education students, and other related activities as directed. Essential Duties: -Conducts psychological assessments and develops case studies of individual students to determine educational needs, learning characteristics, and social behavior relevant to educational placement and instructional planning; files such case studies in compliance with established policies and procedures. -Interprets the findings of individual studies to principals, teachers, parents, students, and others directly concerned with the welfare of the students. -Evaluates the results of tests in relation to the cultural, environmental, and language backgrounds of students. -Serves as Behavior Intervention Case Manager (BICM) for students with special behavior needs. -Participates in the process required by federal, state, and local regulations for the identification, placement, and review/reevaluation of students with special needs; participates in and may act as chairperson for such groups as the school-site Individualized Education Program Team (Special Education), and Student Study Team (Regular Education). -Assists in developing a written individual educational plan for students who are determined eligible for special education placement and/or service; assists in developing recommendations regarding eligibility, program placement, and affective or cognitive experiences for the Gifted/Talented Program. -Observes students in the classroom and other settings to determine how they function in multiple settings. -Provides formal and informal assessments of students abilities that include psychological competencies, social/emotional development, academic achievement, behavioral
Requirements / Qualifications
Education/Experience -A masters degree from an accredited college or university in psychology or related field. -Valid Pupil Services Credential (School Psychology Specialization). -Red Cross First Aid certificate, including CPR training is desirable. Highly Desirable -At least three (3) years of successful experience as a school psychologist in elementary school and middle school directly related to special education -Bilingual/Cross Cultural Specialist Credential or Bilingual Certificate of Competence or BCLAD -Bilingual/Spanish Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics -Demonstrated commitment to students and learning -Knowledge of the growth and development of children, learning theory, and mental health concepts -Sensitivity to and understanding of the unique differences and needs of students with disabilities and their parents -Understanding of the relationship between the total education program and counseling and psychological services -Establish and maintain effective relationships with children, parents, and school staff -Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing -Knowledge of the Education Code, Charter School policies and operating procedures Special Requirements -Must have a reliable automobile for use on the job (mileage to be reimbursed). Valid California Driver License. State required automobile insurance coverage; -TB clearance, to be renewed every two years
