Job Summary
This position is a para-professional level education position located at Sherman Indian High School, in Riverside, California. The primary function of the Education Technician is to assist the classroom teachers in providing day-to-day instruction to high school level students in all academic areas. The Education Technician will instruct small groups and/or individual students and may take charge of a classroom in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Education Technician may also operate outside the classroom in a specialized area where he/she develops a particular skill or performs independent work requiring application or specialized or technical knowledge and skill in restricted phases of a particular education area under direction of the professional educator. This position will include actual participation with the planning of instructing, preparing lesson plans, and doing independent teaching under the supervision of a professional educator.

BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Combination of the following education and experience is the minimum qualifications: Level 01 – Completed at least 48 semester hours of study at an institution of higher education, OR met a rigorous standard of quality, demonstrated through a formal State or local academic assessment test, plus 1 year of experience. Assessment test should demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics; (or, if appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, or mathematics readiness). Experience should be in the same line of work or one which is basically similar to the education position the employee is being placed in. SUBSTITUTION A Bachelors Degree in Education or equivalent degree meets basic requirements for the position. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Term - 2 years NTE/may be extended up to 1 year You will be offered a term appointment not-to-exceed two (2) years, which may be extended one (1) contract year based on workload requirements and/or program funding. NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 2 contract years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (not more than 2). Term employees may be are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be converted to school year or year long contract without further competition. A valid State Driver’s license is a prerequisite, as the position requires operation of a motor vehicle in performance of work. The work requires transporting students or conducting other assigned official business throughout the geographic area of the school compound. A valid State Driver’s license must be maintained as a condition of employment; failure to do so may result in removal from the position.
