Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION: The School Clerk I/II assumes primary responsibility for one or more clerical functions as assigned in an elementary or secondary school. (See current school classification and assignment formula.)

Requirements / Qualifications

PLEASE NOTE: The eligibility for successful applicants will be for six (6) months. When the pre-qualified pools re-open in the Spring of 2023, candidates must re-apply to be considered for future School Clerk I & II pre-qualified vacancies. Successful candidates must still apply to site-specific recruitment postings to be considered for eligibility at that site. The San Diego Unified School District currently has three (3) positions available: Candidates considered for positions that require bilingual skills will be required to pass a Performance Test (Qualifying Only) for oral and written fluency. Bilingual positions qualify for a 5% bilingual differential. These and all future vacancies are promotional/open opportunities, which means that current monthly-salaried employees receive precedence over other candidates on the eligible list. For a promotional/open posting, the top ten internal applicants will be provided unless there is an insufficient number and then the list will be supplemented with the top external applicants to make up the ten (Employment Regulations for the Classified Service of the San Diego Unified School District: Article 2, Section 9).

School Clerk I requires that incumbents be skilled in typing/keyboarding at a minimum of 25 words per minute. School Clerk II requires that incumbents be skilled in typing/keyboarding at a minimum of 40 words per minute. Applicants must certify in writing that they have such skills. Demonstrated proficiency will be expected during the probationary period for the class.
