LIBRARY MEDIA CLERK
Position: Library Media Clerk – Range 36
Reports to: Site Principal
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision of site principal, to perform a variety of responsible sub professional library duties without direct supervision of a certificated librarian; to perform specialized clerical work of above average difficulty; and to do related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Performs a variety of sub-professional library duties, such as charging books in and out at the circulation desk assisting students and teachers in locating materials, processing new books, and maintaining discipline in the library.
Answers reference questions involving knowledge of a variety of subject fields and library reference sources.
Assist students and faculty in the use of the use of the card catalogs and reference materials.
Supervises student patrons.
Givers orientation talks to students on the use of the library.
Selects and orders new library books.
Discards badly worn or damaged books.
Keeps acquisition and circulation statistics and budget records and prepares reports based on these records.
Takes annual inventory of library books and State textbooks.
Prepares catalog and shelf list cards and inventory of library books and State textbooks.
Prepares catalog and shelf list cards and maintains files.
Requisitions supplies.
Takes and receipts student body monies.
May train, supervise, and review student assistants.
Responsible for audio visual equipment at school site.
Distributes county films ordered by teachers and returns them on due date to school office.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS;
Knowledge of: Library terminology and processes such as shelf=listing, cataloging, discarding, binding, charging and receiving. Bibliographical and simple reference materials. Office practices and procedures.
Ability to:
Use standard bibliographic tools and indexes. Memorize and retain the names of various classifications of books, periodicals and pamphlets. Compare clerical records rapidly for accuracy. Supervise and train a small clerical working force of students. Type at a rate of 35 words per minute from a clear copy. Good computer skills.

notified of the examination date. The written exam will cover English language usage, school and
student safety, first aid, student interaction, and human relations.

After a conditional offer of employment, applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Must pass District physical examinations and drug/alcohol screening
2. A current TB clearance
3. Fingerprint clearance from the Dept. of Justice and the FBI
