This is a professional expert contract for the 22-23 school year - Mental Health Therapist GENERAL SUMMARY: The Mental Health Therapist provides a wide range of school counseling services to children grades 9-12, including screening and assessment, individual and group counseling, collaboration with families, participating in the planning and implementation of site-based interventions, and working with/referral to outside agencies as appropriate. They influence the development of a safe, successful learning environment and positive school culture by partnering with teachers, administrators, and school staff. Requirements / Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Possession of a Master's degree or higher in counseling, psychology, clinical social work, or a related field; • Licensure for either a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Clinical Counselor, Psychologist (PSY), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC), Clinical Psychologist (PhD) • One (1) year of experience in a private or governmental agency providing direct mental health related using community resources, and student advocacy.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides psychotherapeutic support including assessment, development of therapy plan and implementation, crisis and ongoing counseling services, and outside referrals in the general and special education settings. May include individual, group and/or brief collateral sessions. Understands and works effectively with people of differing cultures.  The mental health clinician may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principal job elements. 

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 

  • Facilitates individual development by supporting students with social/emotional needs.
  • Provides direct mental health services including counseling, consultation, mental health evaluations, treatment coordination, individual/group therapy, collateral case management to students and families. 
  • Develops and implements treatment plans with clear and clinically/educationally relevant goals, time-based objectives, and appropriate interventions to support students reaching the treatment goals.
  • Collaborates with administrators, faculty and staff, Student Success Team (SST) members, Mental Health Team (MHT) members, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) team members to identify and manage ongoing mental health concerns and student crisis situations.
  • Collaborates with community resources, outpatient providers, family members, law enforcement and probation as needed.
  • Provides advice and training on emotional, social, behavioral and academic issues to staff and family members.
  • May carry a regular caseload of special education students who are receiving individual and/or group counseling services as documented in an IEP, which includes participation in IEP meetings, providing present level updates and determining social/emotional goals.
  • Contributes information to and may recommend student placements and/or assessments including 504 plans and IEPs including educational and environmental considerations and classroom management needs.
  • Serves as a liaison to regional and community referral resources that provide services to students and parents for medical, psychiatric, therapeutic, legal and other needs.
  • Adheres to HIPAA and FERPA standards, including protecting confidential client information whether written (printed/digital) or verbally communicated.
  • Maintains data on the efficacy of services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
