Assist students in setting and meeting education and parole goals as required by course goals and Pre-Release program policy and curriculum. Maintain attendance records, grades, and Work Incentive Program records. Maintain a working knowledge of education and institutional policies and procedures. Evaluate new materials and teaching techniques. Attend all training, meetings, and seminars as needed or required. Maintain the required credential. Performs other related duties.

CDCR’s Office of Correctional Education is seeking credentialed teachers to prepare adult inmates for high school equivalency or diploma. Come be part of CDCR’s effort to improve public safety by preparing inmates for successful community reentry.

Academic Programs

Adult Basic Education (ABE) I, II and III provides incarcerated inmates/students opportunities for acquiring academic skills through an emphasis in English. Language Arts and Mathematics. General Education Development (GED) provides instruction in English/Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies to prepare offenders to take a high school equivalency exam. The High School Diploma (HD) Program is designed to provide offenders with an opportunity to fulfill current graduation requirements for the State of California, Department of Education, and secure a High School Diploma. The Voluntary Education Program includes literacy, adult secondary education, library literacy, television (eLearning) programs, and/or college (via face-to-face classes or correspondence)

If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Possession of: 1. A Single Subject Credential or a Multiple Subject Credential. or 2. A Standard Secondary Credential with a major or minor in an academic subject area. or 3. A General Secondary Credential.
