Position Description

 

Under supervision, the Undocumented & LGBTQIA+ Student Liaison performs responsible, varied, and specialized support to these specific Chaffey College student populations.

 

This position should demonstrate knowledge and understanding about unique issues that impact undocumented students and LGBTQIA+ students, as well as a knowledge and understanding of intersectionality.

 

This position develops programming, support and resources (both on and off campus) to students while offering a safe and trusted space for such interactions and exercises independent decision making within the scope of responsibilities.

 

Responsibilities

 

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

 

• Develop a strong sense of awareness and understanding of the experiences of undocumented students & LGBTQIA+ students and their communities by providing resources and tools for the college community to better support its these students individually and/or collectively.

• Establish partnerships on and off campus to create and implement programs and services to address and support undocumented students' & LGBTQIA+ students' persistence, retention, and success rates.

• Create and update annual digital resource guide of programs and services (both on and off campus) to address undocumented students' & LGBTQIA+ students' needs related to access, persistence, retention, and graduation.

• Serve as liaison to undocumented students & LGBTQIA+ students to campus resources, specifically warm hand off to counseling, advising, career development, wellness, mentorship, academic needs assessment, high school outreach, crisis intervention and retention.

• Stay informed of local resources and referral in the areas for the undocumented & the LGBTQIA+ community such as+ community advocacy, scholarships, crisis intervention, social services, etc.

• Knowledge of financial aid and admissions practices and resources pertaining to undocumented students & LGBTQIA+ students' resources.

• Refer students to immigration legal services for needs and emergencies through college partner.

• Participate as facilitator/resource for campus ally trainings.

• Works closely and meets regularly with undocumented students & LGBTQIA+ students and their affiliated student organizations and campus support groups.

• Update the undocumented student resource website page & the LGBTQIA+ student resource website page.

• Assist in the development and hosting of programs, events, and services to provide holistic support to undocumented students & LGBTQIA+ students.

• Maintain a high level of confidentiality to protect the identity of undocumented students, LGBTQIA+ students, and their families, in accordance with FERPA.

• Fosters a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for prospective and current undocumented students, students with mixed-immigration status families, students from refugee backgrounds, & LGBTQIA+ students.

• Performs related duties as required.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

• Two (2) years of increasingly responsible job-related experience in the area of working with undocumented communities & LGBTQIA+ communities;

• Bachelor's Degree;

• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, cultural humility, diversity, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

• Knowledge in:

• Subject matter expertise required on undocumented student's needs and issues, federal, state and community college policies relevant to undocumented and mixed status students and student development theory;

• Subject matter expertise required on LGBTQIA+ needs and issues, federal, state, and community college policies relevant to LGBTQIA+ students and student development theory;

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding about unique issues that impact undocumented students and students from mixed-status families;

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding about unique issues that impact LGBTQIA+ students.

 

• Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of a community college environment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

 

Working hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm. Hours may vary according to the assignment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

This is a full-time, 12-month, classified bargaining unit position. Starting date: as soon as possible. Range 25 of the CSEA Salary Schedule, with a starting salary of Step A, $5,546. Excellent benefit package.

 

Upon conditional job offer, applicant must provide the District proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and submit to and pass a background check as a prerequisite to being hired. Submitting proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 is a condition of employment.

 

Being able and ready to work onsite at a Chaffey facility or location is an essential function of this job. Being able and ready to work in-person with Chaffey students, Chaffey employees, or other members of the Chaffey community/Chaffey partners/Chaffey contractors is an essential function of this job.
