SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

Brief Description of Position:

Provides psychological services to include testing, counseling and consulting with staff and parents in order to maximize student adjustment and learning.  Applies scientific principles of Psychology to help students reach their full potential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 1. Provides counseling and crisis intervention services to pupils and their families in order to ameliorate adjustment problems at school and in the community.

 2. Provides consultation services to teachers, administrators and parents in planning for the needs of students.

 3. Diagnoses and prescribes interventions for learning and adjustment problems of students.

 4. Provides inservice to school staff and parents to promote an understanding of the learning and development needs of children.

 5. Acts as a resource to parents to help them deal with adjustment problems of children at home and in the community.

 6. Acts as liaison between community mental health agencies and the school.

 7. Administers individual assessment devices and prepares written reports.

 8. Serves on committees with site and District level staff as deemed appropriate.

 9. Maintains positive relationships with staff, parents and community.

 10. Consults with staff and parents regarding procedures and requirements in placing children in Special Education and other categorical programs.

 11. Other duties and assignments related to position as assigned.

 Minimal Qualifications:

 1. Credential: Pupil Personnel Services with Psychologist authorization.

 2. Education: Masters Degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.

 3. Experience: Successful experience in the field of education at elementary and/or secondary level preferred.

 4. Desirable - Bilingual (Spanish)
