Job Summary
The job of Cook/Team Leader is done for the purpose/s of supporting the educational process by providing food service activities at assigned location; overseeing and participating in central production center and/or school site kitchen; performing baking, cooking, and a variety of food preparation activities with specific responsibilities for cooking food items that meet mandated nutritional requirements, often in large quantities for multiple school sites, and requests of students and school personnel; verifying quantities and specifications of orders; maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition, and supervising and assisting assigned food service personnel in performing their functions.

IN-HOUSE PROMOTIONAL - ONLY CURRENT SUSD CONTRACTED EMPLOYEES MAY APPLY. SELECTION PROCESS: All applications will be screened to verify current SUSD employment, ensure application is complete and applicant meets minimum qualifications. The process will include a written exam for all qualified applicants. Those candidates achieving a passing score on the written exam will be invited to take the performance exam. Passing score is 70% on each exam. An eligibility list will be established and the top three ranks of candidates will receive a site interview. Additional interviews will be conducted in rank order until all open positions are filled and as vacancies occur. All examinations are based on the job description for the position. Job descriptions are available on the District website, Personnel Commission, or Human Resources. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, Food Safety & Sanitation Certificate, Driver’s License & Evidence of Insurability. Three years of experience in institutional cooking in an education or equivalent setting has been found to be a minimum requirement for successful job performance. Relevant experience, education, certificates and/or licenses may be substituted.
