BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Technology, provide a variety of specialized services in the installation, operation, repair and maintenance of computer networks and related equipment; monitor, evaluate and modify network systems to assure proper security and operation; install, maintain and repair computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment; provide technical user support assistance.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Provide a variety of specialized services in the installation, operation, repair and maintenance of District Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Local Area Networks (LAN) and related equipment; assess network performance and identify problems or concerns; respond to work orders according to established time lines.
Inspect, troubleshoot and diagnose network systems, hardware, cabling and related equipment to assure the smooth running of District network systems and proper security; resolve network problems and malfunctions.
Install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair a variety of servers, hubs, routers, printers, user stations, firewalls, cabling, interface cards and other network components; maintain network system security, servers and databases; facilitate remote server management and user access.
Serve as a technical resource to District technology users concerning the operation of computers, peripherals, software, networks and related equipment; respond to inquiries and provide technical information; conduct training sessions as directed.
Perform a variety of network administration activities including establishing and maintaining user accounts, data paths, passwords, e-mail accounts, Internet connectivity, back-ups and designated programs and systems; troubleshoot and resolve password issues.
Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve problems with peripheral equipment including printers, printer cables, scanners, hubs, operating systems and others; connect workstations to network and install related software on workstations and servers.
Operate a variety of technical equipment including testers, meters, soldering irons, and various hand and power tools; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
Communicate with District personnel and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns.
Coordinate network solutions with staff and administrators to resolve complex network and server-based problems.
Assist with researching, evaluating and recommending the purchase of computers, networks, peripheral equipment and software and other hardware for compatibility, user needs and District requirements.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on hardware, software, peripherals and network equipment.
Maintain inventory of parts and supplies; stock and order supplies as needed.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to inventory of equipment and maintenance activities.
OTHER DUTIES:
Attend and participate in meetings, conferences and seminars related to computer technology to maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
Provide technical assistance to outside vendors as directed.
Perform related duties as assigned.

INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in Computer Science or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of computer systems, networks, peripherals and related equipment.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California Class C driver's license.
