                                              CUCAMONGA SCHOOL DISTRICT

 

                                                                             

CLASS TITLE:                      LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE (LVN)

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Under the direction of the school nurse, perform specialized health care procedures for students in accordance with State laws and District policies, a variety of clerical duties of average difficulty; and to do related work as may be required. 

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Performs specialized medical treatments as needed to students which may include, but are not limited to: Catheterization, Blood Glucose Testing, Seizure care, Dysreflexia Emergency Care, Gastrostomy Feeding, Hickman Catheter Emergency Care, Mechanical Ventilator, Ostomy Pouch Care, Oxygen Administration, Nebulizer, Tracheostomy Care, Bee Sting Injections, and other medical care service needs as determined necessary.  E

 

Provide student care services which may include, but are not limited to toileting and personal care, washing, feeding, monitoring during recess or other non-instructional times, and other personal care needs as determined necessary.  E

 

Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.  E

 

Assist with the maintenance of health records.  E

 

            Assist with the implementation of programs for the prevention and control of communicable diseases and head lice.  E

 

            Assist with the coordination appraisals, inspections and surveys and follow up of pupils including vision and hearing screening, immunizations, and physical examination as required.  E

 

            Under the supervision of the nurse and in compliance with written doctors’ orders, distribution of doctors prescribed medications.  E

 

            Assist with the setup of the Health Office, organization of the Health Office and maintenance of health records at the site.

 

            Maintain Health Office logs.

 

 

            Assists with the follow up and parent contact of pupils for vision and hearing screening, immunizations, physical examinations, injuries and illness as required.

 

            Assist with checking and maintaining emergency first aid kits in Health Office and at other location in the school.

 

            Supervise students in Health Office.

 

            Participate in training required for administration of specialized health services as necessary.

 

            Other duties as assigned related to the operation of the Health Office or the provision of health services within the District and as authorized by the Licensed Vocational Nurse’s license.

 

E = ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

 

            KNOWLEDGE OF:

Basic computer skills.

 

            ABILITY TO:

Ability to type 45 words per minute.

Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish is highly desired

           

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

 

Completion of the approved course of study and all qualifying examinations necessary for certification as Licensed Vocational Nurse

 

Possession of a current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate and must be renewed as required by law and District Policy.

 

Knowledge of techniques, practices, and procedures for administering first aid; common communicable diseases, their care and treatment; basic principles and procedures of general and common health care practices; school health office procedures including general clerical skills and use of common office machines; and medical terminology.

 

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

A Valid California Vocational Nurse’s License

A valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate;

            A Valid California Driver’s license

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Hearing and speaking to exchange information

Standing for extended periods of time

Bending at the waist and kneeling or crouching to provide assistance
