Psychology: Contract Instructor-College Credit San Diego Community College District Closing Date: 9/22/2022 Position Number: 000974 Location: San Diego City College Position Type: Academic The Position: Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Psychology at San Diego City College beginning Spring 2023. One of three credit colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and career-technical offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor. Assignment may include day, evening, online, Saturday, and/or off-campus classes. Major Responsibilities: The Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences/ Psychology is a member of the Behavioral Sciences Department and reports to the Dean of the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences, and Consumer and Family Studies. The Behavioral Sciences Department includes the disciplines of Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Alcohol & Other Drug Studies, Human Services, Future Studies, Gender Studies, and Peace Studies. Primary responsibilities of the new Behavioral Sciences/Psychology faculty member are teaching: Introduction to Counseling, Community Psychology, Psychology of Aging, and General Psychology. The assignment will be 15 class hours per week. Additional responsibilities of San Diego City College faculty include maintaining regular office hours for student advisement, serving on college and District committees, participating in various departmental and college activities, developing curriculum and programs, and willingness to take on leadership roles in the department. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions. 1. Master’s degree in Psychology; OR, 2. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology AND Master’s degree in Counseling, Sociology, Statistics, Neuroscience, or Social Work; OR, 3. Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential (valid for life) in Psychology; OR, 4. The equivalent. Desired Qualifications: • Extensive clinical and/or counseling experience with diverse communities is preferred. • Evidence of recent teaching of Introduction to Counseling, Community Psychology, Psychology of Aging, and General Psychology is preferred. • Evidence of outstanding oral and written communication skills as expected of a college instructor. • Ability to teach effectively and demonstrate a working knowledge of learning abilities and teaching techniques, including effective evaluation of student performance. • Evidence of involvement with or preparation in non-traditional teaching methods and technologies, specifically utilizing computer technology in the classroom, online teaching, and/or in preparation for online teaching. • Evidence of recent professional development activities that indicates currency in the field of Psychology. • Evidence of experience in developing and/or reviewing courses, curriculum, and/or new programs. • Demonstration of effective collegial collaboration and leadership skills. • Knowledge of the California Community Colleges mission. • Demonstrated cultural humility, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and classified professionals. Licenses: Pay Information: Class 1, Step A – Class 6, Step C ($6,032.90 – $8,128.98) per month based on the current AFT – College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Monthly Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 – Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
