SAN GABRIEL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
TITLE: Campus Security
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Completion of formal or informal education equivalent to completion of 12th grade sufficient to assure the ability to perform the tasks listed.
2. Completion of a 24-hour training course on the specific role of school security personnel.
3. Some experience in law enforcement and/or security and preferably working with students in a public school setting is desirable.
4. Knowledge of methods and procedures for basic security work and regulations that apply to public schools.
5. Moderate work, lifting or pushing heavy objects.
6. Establish rapport with students, staff, and public; gain the interest, respect, and cooperation of students and faculty.
6. Understand and carry out oral and written communications.
8. Operate radio equipment within FCC guidelines.
9. Obtain First Aide and CPR Certification during probationary period.
10. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
11. Flexible hours; possible overtime; may be called upon for additional hours for school related activities.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal
JOB GOAL: To assist certificated staff in maintaining acceptable student conduct at a school campus; and to do related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Patrol students on a school campus.
2. Checks rest rooms, locker areas, school corridors, assembly and athletic facilities, gymnasiums, bus loading areas, and other campus locations in order to observe student behavior and prevent violations or unsafe activities.
3. Patrols parking lot to prevent students leaving campus without permission.
4. Identifies and reports all violation of school rules and unlawful activities to principal or assistant principal.
5. Develops and maintains rapport with students.
6. Reinforces positive attitude among students and advises individual students and student groups.
7. May be required to issue and check lunch passes, parking permits, off-campus permits.
8. Supervises lunch shelter.
9. Check campus for evidence of vandalism and/or graffiti
10. Identify strangers on campus and follow established procedures to see that they leave campus.
11. Keep appropriate records and a log of daily activity.
12. Occasionally perform physically strenuous activities which may involve interaction with students, non-students, or staff.
