BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, plan and organize the operations of a College and Career Center at a high school site; provide information and assistance to students utilizing career center resources; prepare and deliver a variety of informational presentations to students regarding colleges, available resources, testing and scholarships; coordinate special events and workshops for the College and Career Center.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plan and organize the operations of a College and Career Center at a high school site; motivate and encourage students concerning career/college options; assist students with career exploration and decision-making individually and in small groups utilizing Career Center materials.
Provide assistance, training and career information to students, administrators and the public concerning College and Career Center functions and resources; serve as a liaison between the district, staff, students, and local service organizations and businesses; prepare and deliver classroom presentations regarding career and college opportunities.
Schedule and coordinate the use of College and Career Center resources; maintain master calendar for the College and Career Center; orient students, staff and others individually or in groups in the use and content of center resources and materials; operate and instruct others in the use of center equipment and computerized career guidance systems.
Administer and score a variety of skills, interest and aptitude career assessments; interpret and explain test results to students; maintain related records; private tutoring for college entrance exams.
Coordinate and schedule college application, scholarship and financial aid workshops; provide follow-up services to students by contacting them individually and going to classrooms.
Perform clerical duties related to college and career center functions; compile and duplicate materials as needed; assemble and disseminate informational packets; assure college and career center is stocked with updated college and vocational catalogues, registration forms, brochures and other informational materials; maintain college and career center in a clean and orderly condition.
Coordinate and schedule special events such as Career Days, College Fairs and field trips; reserve and set up facilities; schedule college representatives, business professionals, military representatives and others for speaking engagements; prepare related materials and mailings.
Communicate with students, District personnel and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns related to student jobs, community resources, college and career center functions and assigned duties.
Develop career and job bulletins and other materials to publicize and promote career planning activities; collect, maintain and distribute related materials.
Assist students with completing necessary applications and forms; assist in registering students in selected college and career workshops.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to student information, college and career center programs and assigned activities; establish and maintain filing systems.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a calculator, copier, laminator, fax machine, typewriter, computer and assigned software.

Attend a variety of meetings and conferences related to assigned activities.
Perform related duties as assigned.

INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of study (48 units) from a recognized college or university OR possession of an Associate's degree OR meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.
- Completion of college-level courses in behavioral science, vocational education or related fields is desirable.
- Possess a valid California Driver's License and maintain possession of such license during the course of employment. Must be insurable at the standard rates and maintain such insurability during the course of employment.
- Official Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history record.
