Under general supervision, in an elementary or middle school setting directly assisting the School Office Coordinator, perform a wide variety of clerical functions of average to above average difficulty, including typing and other general office duties; other related work as required.

- Perform a variety of clerical tasks including typing, proofreading, filing, and the recording of data
- Compile information and prepare reports and summaries
- Answer the telephone and provide caller with routine information and data
- Assist the public and office visitors by answering routine inquiries, providing them with information and data, and by directing them to appropriate offices
- Maintain a variety of alphabetical, numerical and subject matter files and records
- Type from rough drafts and notes, and prepare final copy of material
- May perform a variety of data entry functions using a computer
- May compose routine letters and memoranda independently
- Receive, sort and distribute mail
- Make appointments
- May receive and distribute books and other instructional materials or equipment
- May assist in the preparation and maintenance of student permanent records, including the recording of grades, test scores, attendance information and a variety of confidential information
- May assist in the processing of student transcripts and records for distribution
- May receive money and prepare receipts and documents for bank deposits
- May maintain simple financial or statistical records
- May prepare bulletin boards and displays, and perform simple tasks in maintaining a neat and orderly work environment
- May administer routine first aid and contact appropriate agencies and individuals concerning serious student illness or injury
- May contact parents regarding pupil absences and/or school issues
- May administer student medications
- Communicate with District Office and other schools as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Modern office methods, procedures and techniques
- English, spelling, grammar, punctuation and arithmetic
- Standard office machines and equipment, including computers
- Record storage, retrieval and management systems
Ability to:
- Basic first aid techniques and procedures as required by the assignment
- Perform general clerical work of average difficulty with speed and accuracy
- Make simple arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form
- Type 45 words per minute (net corrected speed) and/or demonstrate proficiency in computer use and word processing
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Use new equipment and technology as it becomes required to perform this job
- Represent school in professional /positive manner when dealing with community on phone, in person, or via written correspondence
- Interact positively with students
- Accurately meet deadlines
Requirements / Qualifications
Experience: • One year of experience performing varied general office or clerical functions • Course work or training in typing, filing, and office practices Education: • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training or course work in typing, word processing, office management, data management, storage and retrieval systems, or other related areas

- CPR/First Aid Certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association )

The East Whittier City School District provides educational opportunities (transitional kindergarten through eighth grade, including special education) for approximately 9,000 children. The District employs approximately 1,075 teachers, administrators and support staff. We have 13 schools which operate on a traditional school year schedule.
