JOB TITLE:   Accountant                                                                                 

The job of "Accountant" is done for the purpose of maintaining financial records; ensuring that revenues are generated as projected, revenue and expenditures are within budget limits and overall fiscal policies, practices and/or regulations are followed; maintaining accurate account balances, assist in projecting budgets for grant applications; providing financial data for analysis, produce spread sheets and other financial reports, make accounting entries as needed and complete accounts payable, receivable and payroll transactions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist  in the projection and development of budgets for grants and special programs for the purpose of ensuring the budget parameters are met.
  • Implements reporting procedures and internal controls for the purpose of maintaining accurate records.
  • Informs personnel regarding various procedures and program requirements for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with established fiscal guidelines.
  •  Maintains various fiscal information, files and records for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
  •  Monitors fund balances of assigned programs and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
  • Prepares documentation (e.g. reports, budgets, correspondence, internal audits, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Monitors various budgets (e.g. general funds and special funds) for the purpose of providing financial data for fiscal guidance to budget and/or grant administrators.
  • Processes various fiscal information (e.g. payroll, attendance, special project allocations, etc.) for the purpose of updating required state/federal fiscal reports.
  • Maintains various fiscal information, files and records (e.g. accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, contracts, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
  • Reconciles account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related policies, practices and/or regulations.
  • Researches discrepancies of financial information and/or documentation (e.g. purchase orders, invoices, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing for action.

Other Job Functions:

  • Participates in various activities (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information.

Job Requirements - Qualifications:

  • Experience Required: Prior job related experience in accounting, financial or statistical records maintenance with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skill  to communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, parents and school administrators; operate standard office equipment including use of computers (word processing and development  and use of spreadsheets and other accounting applications); use English in both written and verbal form, use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, perform complex  calculations.

Knowledge  of accounting policies, practices and procedures, problem solving methodology, appropriate laws, codes, and regulations.

Ability to sit for prolonged periods, work with minimal supervision, think logically with attention to detail, prepare clear and accurate reports.  Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing, near visual acuity.

  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:  Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance,  Health Physical Clearance, Tuberculosis Testing/Clearance.
