The counselor is to guide students in the college selection process including testing and application procedures. In addition, the counselor supports the teachers and administration by facilitating cooperation between the students and the school staff through interpretation and implementation of the school handbook, and by counseling and providing guidance in various matters.

Position Summary:

The counselor is to guide students in the college selection process including testing and application procedures.
In addition, the counselor supports the teachers and administration by facilitating cooperation between the students and the school staff through interpretation and implementation of the school handbook, and by counseling and providing guidance in various matters.
Delegated Authority:
The College and Career Guidance Counselor works directly with the high school registrar. This position provides direction, guidance and oversight of the registrar.
Qualifications:
- Must possess or be enrolled in a program leading to required certificate: Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational ability
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Experience with computer programs that relate to building master schedules, grading, attendance, and parent and student communication
- Ability to establish excellent rapport with school constituents
Educational Development and Work Related Experience:
- Pupil Personnel Services degree
- Two years previous experience as a guidance counselor
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Define, implement, and evaluate a successful program for the school, and work to improve the academic and social success of students
- Build the master schedule
- Design individual class schedules for all students in appropriate classes
- Prepare schedule changes as needed
- Be responsible for report cards and grades including posting athletic ineligibility/eligibility quarterly
- Responsible for transcripts and academic history of high school students
- Serve as AP Coordinator
- Successfully counsel and motivate students
- Provide private individual counseling to students as needed
- Participate in all student study teams
- Conduct student support groups as needed
- Prepare Honor Roll and list ineligible students
- Coordinate Awards and Scholarship Night
- Counsel students regarding college preparatory programs, colleges, and career choices
- Advise students of college financial aid and scholarship offers
- Provide letters of recommendations for colleges and scholarships
- Schedule and coordinate visits of college representatives
- Host the regional Christian College Faire .
- Facilitate classroom presentations on colleges, testing, scheduling, etc.
- Host college visits to maximize student understanding of various colleges
- Provide classroom presentations on colleges, testing, programs, surveys, etc.
- Oversee specific entrance requirements and admission procedures for:
- ROTC Training programs, Training and Vocational schools, Military Academies, Private Colleges, UC and Cal State Universities, Community Colleges
- Oversee and coordinate school wide testing program-SAT 10, PSAT, PLAN, ASVAB
- Work closely with the Director of Special Services
- Provide Informational Meeting and materials for parents of MC Middle School 8th graders
- Participate in and supervise extra-curricular activities, (e.g., Admin on Duty for athletic games)
- Be responsible for baccalaureate and graduation programs with assistance from Principal
- Serve as Administrator in Charge in the absence of the Principal and Dean of Students
