Assists a teacher in a Child Development Center in conducting instructional activities, providing services to children newborn to fifth grade.

Requirements / Qualifications

Answers to the supplemental questions, a copy of your High School diploma or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency, and transcripts verifying at least 12 units of college coursework (see minimum qualifications) must be submitted with your application. If you have previously held a Child Development permit, a copy of your permit must be submitted with your application. Applicants will not be allowed to take the examination without being fully vaccinated. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after completion of two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Incumbents must apply for and obtain an Associate Teacher Permit through the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. In addition, incumbents must complete 15 additional units of coursework in early childhood education or child development and obtain the renewal of the required Associate Teacher Permit. Upon completion of the renewal, incumbents are required to maintain the Associate Teacher Permit. Fees related to obtaining and renewing the Associate Teacher Permit are at the employee's expense. In order to obtain the renewal of Associate Teacher Permit, incumbents have to be enrolled in an accredited institution leading to an Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field. By the end of the ten years period, the incumbent must meet the requirements for the Child Development Teacher Permit. Requirements mandated by U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of Head Start.
