Basic Functions
The https://www.sbcc.edu/equity/umoja/ is a community and critical resource dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of African American and other students. The Umoja center actively serves and promotes student success for all students through a curriculum and pedagogy responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas. The Umoja Program Assistant will support core staff in the daily operations of the center.
Umoja Center Hours:
Monday - Thursday 9 am - 4 pm (occasional evenings)
Closed weekends
This position is assigned up to 19.5 hours a week
Salary Range $16.54 - $18.27
Representative Duties
Primary duties include:
• Engage in friendly customer service
• Create an atmosphere of welcoming and belonging for students
• Greet students and guests when entering or leaving the Umoja center
• Assist students with the registration process
• Provide initial resource and referral information to students
• Collect and maintain attendance records
• Assist with event coordination
• Assist with the Umoja calendar
• Assist with outreach on campus and in the community
• Maintain a clean and tidy center
• Provide leadership for the student staff and volunteers
Education and Experience
