GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under supervision, perform a variety of paraprofessional instructional and clerical activities as directed by a certificated teacher in a classroom comprised of students with physical, emotional, educational, or behavioral problems, or in a regular education classroom with mainstreamed special education students, or in a continuation classroom in programs for severely emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, resource specialist, or hearing and visually impaired students; and perform all other related duties as assigned.

Instructional Assistants/Paraeducators, whether general education or special education, are required by law to be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist with, instruction, reading/language arts, and mathematics, either by possessing an Associate’s Degree or higher, 48 semester college units, or passing a minimum proficiency exam.
