Requirements / Qualifications
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Coordinator of Special Education serves as a District administrator, and provides technical support to principals, site administrators and teachers on all matters relating to the program for exceptional children and those with special needs. The coordinator will ensure compliance by the school with all local, State, and Federal laws and regulation relating to students with IEPs plans and students referred to special education. The coordinator provides resources to enable all students to benefit from their educational opportunities to the fullest, and to the extent possible, alleviate those problems that prevent or interfere with student learning. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • California Education Specialist Instruction Credential. • California Administrative Credential. • Earned Master’s Degree or Doctorate from an accredited institution. • Five years of full-time teacher experience in grades K-12 or as Program Specialist. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: • Must have proven ability to interact effectively with students, parents, administrators and teacher in a diverse community. • Demonstrated ability to lead, collaborate with, and motivate schools to improve student achievement. • Must possess good judgment, knowledge of school and district policies, and ability to enhance educational programs. • Ability to read, write and speak Spanish. • Must have knowledge of school reforms, laws, practices & procedures as it relates to special education. • Two years successful experience as administrator in a paid certificated position preferred.
