Performs under the supervision of the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Director. Under limited supervision of the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Director will provide referral, assessment, IEP and itinerant services to deaf and hard of hearing students, ages 0 to 22 years in a variety of educational settings.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under limited supervision of the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Director will provide referral, assessment, IEP and itinerant services to deaf and hard of hearing students, ages 0 to 22 years in a variety of educational settings. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: 1.Respond to referrals for assessment 2.Perform as member of transdisciplinary assessment team 3.Membership on IEP teams 4.Prepare all required written assessment reports 5.Provide direct instruction and consultation to students and staff 6.Assist general and special education teachers to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing children in the classroom 7.Communicate and collaborate with administrators, staff and parents regarding student progress and needs 8.Maintain confidential files and each student’s confidentiality 9.Ability to travel between school sites and accommodate flexible scheduling demands 10.Perform other duties as assigned by SELPA Director 11.Maintain positive working relationships and communication with CCOE and district staff 12.Implement the vision, mission, policies, administrative regulations and practices of the County Superintendent of Schools and the County Board of Education MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in appropriate field. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING: Master's Degree in special education or related field. Bilingual Spanish or sign language skills MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: No minimum experience requirement. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE: Prior experience and/or training serving students with cochlear implants. Prior knowledge of hearing aids and assistive listening devices. Experience with or interest in assistive technology, alternative communication systems. Instructional strategies to enable hearing impaired and deaf students to be included in the general education core curriculum. CREDENTIALS AND/OR SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Possession of or qualification for a valid California Credential in Special Education, authorizing instruction for the Hearing Impaired. Demonstrate communicative competence in American Sign Language. Commitment to education in least restrictive, normalized settings. Ability to function as a member of an educational team. Strong behavior management, positive discipline skills. Be flexible and receptive to change. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees in this position must have the ability to: 1.Sit and stand for extended periods of time. 2.Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, and to perform classroom tasks using both hands. 3.See and read printed matter with or without vision aids. 4.Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone. 5.Speak so that others may understand at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone. 6.Stand, walk, and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds to waist height. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employees in this position will be required to work indoors and outdoors in a school environment and come in direct contact with students, district staff and the public. LICENSE REQUIRED: A valid and appropriate California Driver’s License.
