Comments and Other Information
Sacramento City Unified School District seeks a principal to lead Leataata Floyd Elementary School to establish and maintain a culture on the campus where all students are encouraged and supported in striving for excellence academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe and nurturing atmosphere.
Currently there are 283 students enrolled at Leataata Floyd Elementary School. The Leataata Floyd student body of students is comprised of approximately 26% Hispanic/Latino students, 52% African American and 6% Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. Additionally, 98.1% of its students are from socio-economically disadvantaged households, 6% are English Learners, and 15% receive Special Education services.
Leataata Floyd’s new principal will need to address areas of concern surrounding low performance in English Language Arts and Mathematics across several student groups. Additionally, they will need to be well versed in Trauma Informed practices, Universal Design for Learning, and be an expert in monitoring and evaluating early literacy and high quality instruction.
The goal for Leataata Floyd Elementary is to work in partnership with parents, community, and stakeholders to create an environment where students are empowered to discover their strengths and achieve their maximum potential. Staff seek to develop and implement a responsive curriculum wherein the necessary first instruction, enrichment, and intervention supports are embedded with purpose and care so that all students are prepared for college and career.
Leataata Floyd Elementary focuses on the research based forums for accelerated academic improvement: Whole Child Approach to Learning, Inclusive Practices, Project Based Learning, Balanced Literacy, data analysis, and Culturally/Linguistically Responsive Teaching strategies.
Staff also focus intensely on Positive Behavior Intervention and Support, Restorative Justice practices, mindful practices, inclusive practices, and Social Emotional Learning.
Staff believe that by focusing on these proven approaches and practicing them relentlessly, services to students, parents and community will result in the following: accelerated student academic achievement; reduction in the Achievement Gap, college and career readiness, and the realization of hopes and dreams. Students will leave Leataata Floyd Elementary knowing how to benefit from their learning experience in Sacramento City Unified School District and how to access support in accomplishing their goals. Moreover, students will be fully equipped with the skills and confidence to succeed as they transition to middle and high school.
