About the Employer

The Merced County Office of Education assists Merced County’s 20 school districts through support and oversight of curriculum and instruction, alternative education, business services, early education, technology, migrant education, special education, and teacher credentialing. MCOE is led by the elected Merced County Superintendent of Schools and governed by the Merced County Board of Education. While serving as a focal point to facilitate local school/government/community partnerships, MCOE is responsible for the fiscal oversight of each school district in Merced County, hears appeals for student expulsion hearings and interdistrict transfers and operates Green Meadows Outdoor School.

Under the general supervision of the Head Start Program Director, perform a wide variety of administrative support services to the program Director and department staff; provide clerical support to the policy council; perform administrative and clerical duties as assigned by the Director; and respond to routine inquiries from the public.

Minimum qualifications: EDUCATION: High School Diploma plus one year of advanced secretarial training obtained through a community college or on-the-job training. AA Degree in office administration or related field desired. EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in a highly responsible secretarial or administrative assistant capacity. Experience providing administrative support to a program director or chief administrative officer desired. CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Proficient in the use of MS Word and Excel software and in other software programs, i.e., graphic layout design and databases. Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; and interpret and explain Head Start policies and programs. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Proof of valid CA driver’s license and minimum amount of liability insurance required by law. DMV-H6 printout required. Bilingual in English/Spanish desired but not required.
