JOB DESCRIPTION: TEACHER – INSTRUMENTAL AND CLASSROOM MUSIC
Job Summary: The job of “Teacher – Instrumental and Classroom Music” is done for the purpose/s of organizing and teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes in instrumental music and classroom music. Implementation of curriculum and skills for grades K–8 which have components for: instrumental music, general classroom music, and elementary grade performances.
Essential Job Functions:
*Instructs primary students in general music; gives class instruction to beginning, intermediate, and advanced band musicians; develops and directs band program.
*Recruits fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade pupils to receive instruction in playing standard band instruments.
* Selects, edits, and rearranges orchestrations to conform to the musical ability of the pupils.
* Organizes and presents instrumental music programs for assemblies and classroom demonstrations; presents student performance programs for parents and community.
* Maintains and makes minor adjustments and repairs to musical instruments, including tuning, string replacement, trimming and adjusting reeds, oiling valves and slides, etc.
* Responsible for district musical instruments; arranges for repair of such instruments as needed.
* Demonstrates musical instruments and other music related activities to classes upon request.
*Prepares teaching materials and documentation, e.g., grades, attendance, etc. for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing written support and/or conveying information
*Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
*Assesses student for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration, i.e., students progress, expectations, goals, etc.,
* Collaborates with school personnel, parents, and community resources for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and planning curriculum.
*Facilitates student’s learning for the purpose of improving their success in academics and interpersonal skills.
*Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe environment and providing optimal learning conditions.
*Prepares documentation, e.g., anecdotal records, tests, grades, etc. for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
*Intervenes in events of inappropriate student behavior for the purpose of assisting students to modify such behavior and develop successful interpersonal skills.
* Supervises interns, aides, student teachers, para-professionals and other staff as assigned for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum.
Other Job Functions:
*Participates in various meetings, e.g., parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc. for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information; and/or meeting credential requirements.
Additional or different functions may be assigned as required.
Job Requirements - Qualifications:
*Experience Required: Prior job related experience.
*Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to motivate and excite students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, evaluate performance, and accommodate special needs students.
Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized tasks; maintain records; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel; meet schedules and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
*Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Teaching Credential for appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects, TB Test clearance; Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.
