Under the general supervision of the Director IV, Special Education, or designee, serve as a specialist to special education teachers, support services staff and administrators to facilitate instructional programs for students with orthopedic and physical disabilities; assesses program needs and implements program objectives; provides and coordinates resource for addressing compliance requirements.
Requirements:
Knowledge of:
- Students with special needs, particularly orthopedically impaired and physically health impaired students
- Recent developments in special education, especially pertaining to students with orthopedic impairments, including health related needs
- Current laws and regulations pertaining to individuals with exceptional needs
- Laws and mandates related to Special Education services, Individual Education Plans, and compliance related services
Ability to:
- Assist in the planning, development and implementation of the special education program for student with orthopedic impairments (OI) and physical and health impairments (PHI)
- Assist parents and teachers in understanding federal and state guidelines regarding eligibility and placement in special education, interpretation of assessment data and the establishment and achievement of instructional goals
- Support the appropriate placement of students and integration, inclusion and mainstreaming activities in consultation with site administrators, special education staff and school nurses
- Assist in the development, selection and/or procurement of curriculum materials and equipment to assist teachers with specialized instructional programs
- Assist in the developing and coordinating the determination, delivery and effectiveness of relevant services/staff development activities for special education staff
- Provide assistance to the special education teaching staff in planning, organizing and coordinating staff functions, facilities, materials and equipment purchase and use
- Assist in assuring that pupils have full educational opportunity by coordinating transportation and support staff for program students
- Assist special education personnel in the development, review, revision, implementation and coordination of services in the Individuated Education Program (IEP)
- Participate, as required, in IEP Team meetings
- Screen referred students from SELPA districts for appropriateness of placement, support program tours, collaborate with IEP team to recommend placement and adjust class loads and geographic areas of assignments, as needed
- Assist in the development and enhancement of Community Based Instruction (CBI) for students with Moderate/Severe disabilities
- Collaborate and coordinate services with the Workability program
- Serve as Administrative designee at IEP’s, as needed
- Meet schedules and timelines
- Ability to plan and organize work
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Desired:
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience as either a special education teacher, program specialist or support personnel in the operation of programs for student with disabilities
- Valid California credential authorizing service as a special education teacher; Clear Education Specialist: Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe credential or PPS: School Psychologist credential
- Knowledge of and experience with Assistive Technology and Alternative Augmentative Communication assessments and implementation in the school setting
- Recent experience of training and demonstrated proficiency in core curriculum and curriculum development and implementation of instructional programs; moderate/severe, Orthopedically Impaired (OI) or Physical and Health Impairments (PHI) classroom experience is preferred
- Administrative Credential or Certificate of Eligibility, is desirable
Salary:
The current range for this position is $99,941 - $116,917 for 206 days of duty.
