Requirements / Qualifications

The job of Special Circumstance Instructional Assistant (SCIA) was established for the purposes of providing support to a student with special needs with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision and instruction of a particular student in either a special or general education classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; providing information to appropriate school personnel; assisting students in completing classroom assignments, and supporting students with unique physical and/or adaptive needs.

Note--Currently there is a requirement for all California school employees to either: 1. Submit proof of Covid Vaccination, or 2. Participate in weekly diagnostic Covid testing. If you are hired by Valley Center-Pauma Unified, you will have to comply with this while the requirement remains in effect. Paraprofessionals whose duties include instructional support must have: High school diploma or the equivalent, and (a) Two years of college (48 units), or (b) A. A. degree (or higher), or (c) Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction. If you currently do not have the required college units and would like to take the assessment test, please contact HR to schedule a time. The following are the REQUIRED documents for a complete application:

  • Copy of Transcript (Desired: College Transcripts; Applicants who have not attended college must provide proof of High School graduation or equivalent)
