Requirements / Qualifications

Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach. The Program Specialist, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Special Education, will provide consultative, support and advisory services to teachers, parents, administrators, and staff in the implementation, development and operation of programs for special education students from Preschool through grade 12. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs. HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION: Full time position work Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm Salary: Contact the Human Resources Department We do participate in CalSTRS. EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS: • Permanent California residency • Extremely organized • Flexible • Excellent communication skills • Knowledgeable in curriculum programming and Special Education Law • Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher • Ability to travel statewide, as requested, possibly overnight • Can multi-task • Attention to detail • Can communicate the educational need for DIS services versus the clinical need in an IEP meeting, to parents and to other professionals. • Extremely organized Experience Preferred: • Previous experience as a program specialist or similar administrative role REQUIRED CREDENTIAL/CERTIFICATION: (All applicants MUST have the following at the time of applying) Must hold a valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate and/or Moderate/Severe Disabilities California English Learner Authorization Autism Authorization Preferred REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
