King-Chavez Community High School is looking for a Health Technician to provide basic first aid, routine and emergency health assessment, treatment and referral services. This position will also manage our COVID prevention and response efforts. A CPR/First Aide is needed. Bilingual in Spanish is required. Previous experience in a health-related field is preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Health Technician
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL:
To provide basic first aid, routine and emergency health assessment, treatment and referral services.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification issued by an authorized agency.
- Bloodborne pathogen training.
- High school graduation or equivalent, with minimum of one year of clerical or office experience, preferably in a health care setting. School experience is a plus.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English. Bilingual Spanish is preferred, but not required.
- Employment is contingent on satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and negative TB skin test or chest X-ray.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Believes deeply in the mission and values of King-Chavez Neighborhood of Schools.
- Assesses the priority and acuity of medical situations and applies appropriate first-aid and/or cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Documents incidents and informs a paramedic, administrator, or parent of actions taken. Makes 911 call as needed.
- Assists ill or injured students and contacts parents as necessary for students to be taken home. Render first aid treatment to injured and ill students. Sterilize, disinfect, and bandage minor cuts, abrasions, and burns.
- Provide a quiet, comfortable, and calming atmosphere for ill and injured students.
- Administer prescribed medications or other approved treatments to students with physician’s instructions. Assists students with blood glucose monitoring. Assists medically fragile students with toileting and hygiene. Works with parents to establish required forms that contain instructions for administering medications and other student health protocols and instructions. Logs data such as, but not limited to, time and nature of medication.
- Screen students for head lice or other communicable diseases, and issue exposure notices as necessary.
- Maintain and update student files, immunization records, accident reports, emergency medical records, and disability reports.
- May assist a nursing professional or other care provider (e.g. Speech Pathologist, Psychologist, Dentist) in health screens such as, but not limited to, hearing, speaking, vision, or dental hygiene. Documents test findings and enters information into student data records.
- Records data on student health screens, test results, and other demographic information for use in recurring reports and program assessments.
- Reviews student records for proper immunizations. Alerts parents of needed immunizations and maintains communication until records of immunization are provided.
- Coordinates between parents and the school items such as PE notes or exemptions. Documents written materials in student files.
- Ensures that health supplies are properly inventoried and at sufficient levels. Distributes supplies as needed.
- May serve as a team leader for emergency response. Works with disaster administration to coordinate first lines of triage. Maintains adequate supplies of first aid supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

- Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students.
- Hearing and speaking clearly to exchange information and make presentations.
- Seeing to read, prepare and review a variety of activities and to monitor student activities.
- Lift and carry items up to 20 lbs.
- Walking and standing for extended periods of time to provide instruction and to escort students around campus.
- Sitting in order to work at desks or tables.
Hazards:
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases and contact with blood and other body fluids.
- Potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior.
